The Twelve Days of Christmas: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke

It’s often been said that there’s no greater gift than a good book, so we’re delighted to kick-off our festive giveaway with a real Christmas cracker from Jonny Geller.  We’ll be giving at least one book away every working day until the 16th December – just visit our @CBBookGroup Twitter page to be in with a chance to win.

Jonny Geller“My perfect xmas gift would be Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke.

Although it was published ten years ago, we still receive monthly letters from readers who love this book. It is perfect for Christmas as it is a sweeping historical novel with a twist – it is funny, (it is also action packed and about magic). Susanna creates a completely authentic but parallel universe in 19th Century England and if you like books where you lose yourself for 800 pages, this is for you.

It is also a good idea to read it now – a seven part television adaptation from the BBC is coming in the Spring and you must read it before it comes out! It is one of the most ambitious drama series I have ever seen on BBC1.

And you don’t have to just take my word for it – Neil Gaiman has called it “Unquestionably the finest English novel of the fantastic written in the last 70 years.”

For your chance to win a copy of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell – for yourself or to giveaway – just vist our @CBBookGroup Twitter page on Monday 1st December and retweet one of our tweets about the book.  We will be announcing one lucky winner on our Twitter page on Tuesday 2nd December, so stay tuned.
